A large share of the older housing stock around Eau Claire is still on 60- or 100-amp service that was sized for a 1950s household. Add a heat pump, an EV, a hot tub or a finished basement and the panel becomes the bottleneck — and in the case of certain recalled brands, the hazard. Upgrading to a modern 200-amp service solves capacity, safety and insurability in one job.
What this service covers
- 100A to 200A service upgrades, and 400A for large or dual-dwelling properties
- Full panel replacement including meter socket, service mast and grounding electrode system
- Replacement of Federal Pacific Stab-Lok, Zinsco and Sylvania panels — known failure-to-trip hazards
- Fuse box to breaker panel conversions
- Sub-panels for garages, shops, additions, barns and accessory dwellings
- AFCI and GFCI breaker retrofits to bring an older panel to current code
- Complete circuit directory — every breaker mapped and labeled, which almost never comes standard elsewhere
- Load calculation before we quote, so the service we install matches the load you actually have
You probably need this if…
- • A fuse box, or a panel with a brand name of Federal Pacific, Zinsco or Sylvania
- • Your insurer asked about the panel, or declined to renew
- • You are adding an EV charger, hot tub, heat pump, or finishing a basement
- • The panel is full and someone has doubled up breakers on a single slot
- • Rust, moisture staining or scorch marks inside the enclosure
Any of these is worth a phone call. Call 715-684-2609 and we will tell you honestly whether it is urgent.
Your warranty on this work
Panel Upgrades & Service Changes carries our 5-year workmanship warranty. Service upgrades, panels and whole-home systems carry our longest workmanship coverage: five years on all labor, plus we register the manufacturer warranty on your equipment for you so the paperwork is never your problem. Parts and equipment carry their manufacturer's term on top of that, and we register the product in your name at install so a future claim is not your paperwork problem.

Where we do this work
We handle panel upgrades across all 50 communities inside our 60-mile radius — Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, Menomonie, Rice Lake, Black River Falls, River Falls and everywhere between.
Service upgrades, panels and whole-home systems carry our longest workmanship coverage: five years on all labor, plus we register the manufacturer warranty on your equipment for you so the paperwork is never your problem.
- Written, not verbal. Your warranty terms are printed on the invoice you sign, with the covered scope and the expiration date on it. Nothing about your coverage depends on remembering a conversation.
- Transferable when you sell. Remaining workmanship coverage transfers to the next owner at no cost. Call us with the closing date and we reissue the certificate in their name — a genuinely useful thing to hand a buyer's inspector.
- Parts carry the manufacturer's term. Panels, breakers, fixtures, EV chargers and generators are covered by their manufacturer, typically 1–10 years depending on the product. We register the equipment in your name at install and handle the claim if one is ever needed.
- No fine print on the callback. A warranty visit means no trip charge, no diagnostic fee and no minimum. If we caused it, fixing it is on us.
Panel Upgrades — questions we get asked
How long does a panel upgrade take?
A standard residential 200-amp service change is a one-day job. Power is off for roughly four to six hours of that day. We coordinate the utility disconnect and reconnect and schedule the inspection ourselves.
Do I really need to replace a Federal Pacific panel?
We recommend it without reservation. Stab-Lok breakers have a documented history of failing to trip under fault conditions, which defeats the entire purpose of a breaker. Many insurers now surcharge or decline homes that still have one.
Will I need a permit?
Yes, and we pull it. A service change requires a permit and inspection in every jurisdiction we work in. We file the paperwork, meet the inspector and give you the signed card for your records.
What warranty comes with a panel upgrade?
Our 5-year workmanship warranty, plus the manufacturer's warranty on the panel and breakers, which we register in your name at install.
